Van Gogh and the Roulins
Now on display
Discover the extraordinary friendship between Vincent van Gogh and postman Joseph Roulin and his family through the many portraits Van Gogh made of them. This exhibition showcases the deep personal connection between the artist and the Roulin family, who became his close friends and frequent subjects during his time in Arles.
The exhibition features over 20 portraits of the Roulin family members, including Joseph Roulin, his wife Augustine, and their children Armand, Camille, and Marcelle. These works demonstrate Van Gogh's evolving style and his ability to capture the character and personality of his subjects.

Van Gogh's Masterpieces
The permanent collection of the Van Gogh Museum includes over 200 paintings by Vincent van Gogh, organized chronologically into five periods:
- The Netherlands (1881-1885): Early works including "The Potato Eaters"
- Paris (1886-1888): Works influenced by Impressionism and Japanese art
- Arles (1888-1889): Some of his most famous works including "Sunflowers" and "The Bedroom"
- Saint-Rémy (1889-1890): Works created during his stay at the asylum
- Auvers-sur-Oise (1890): Final works including "Wheatfield with Crows"
